Your Notice of Assessment (NOA): What It Is & How To Get It
What is a Notice of Assessment?
A Notice of Assessment is an important document that CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) sends you after processing your tax return each year.
It shows:
- Your total income reported
- The assessment of your tax return
- Any amounts owing or refunds due
- Your RRSP contribution room
- Any corrections CRA made to your return
How to Get Your Notice of Assessment
Option 1: CRA My Account (Fastest Method)
- Visit www.canada.ca/my-cra-account
- Log in to your CRA My Account
- Select "Tax Returns"

4. Click on "Notice of Assessment" for the tax year you need

5. Download the PDF

Option 2: Through Your Tax Software
1. Log in to your tax software (TurboTax, UFile, etc.)
2. Look for CRA documents or Auto-fill options
3. Connect to CRA through the software
4. Download your NOA
Can't Access Your CRA Account?
If you're locked out or never set up CRA My Account:
Call CRA to reset your access 1 (800) 959-8281
Keep your NOAs in a safe place
- For mortgage applications, we typically need the most recent 1-2 years
- Make sure your address is up to date with CRA
- NOAs are usually available 2-3 weeks after filing your taxes
